How To Verify a Cosmetology License Renewal Course Is TDLR-Approved
Cosmetology CE

For those who are seeking to renew a cosmetology license in the state of Texas, one of the most important steps you can take is to make sure that your continuing education course is approved by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR). An unapproved course will not be honored by TDLR and you will still be required to complete a TDLR-approved course before renewing your Texas cosmetology license.

Don’t fall prey to lesser or unapproved courses. This can create considerable delays while also costing you extra time and money. If it’s time for your cosmetology license renewal, here is how you can verify whether or not your renewal course is TDLR-approved

Check the Continuing Education Provider List

Make sure you only review lists of state-approved courses in Texas. Thankfully, your good friends at TDLR publish such a list. This is the safest and easiest way to verify approval and check the course details for those approved providers. You might also want to have a closer look at this page as it provides additional information pertaining to acquiring or renewing your cosmetology license in the Lone Star State.

If a provider is not listed with the state, that is a red flag. Many TDLR-approved course providers also provide contact details. If you don’t immediately find a provider by name, you can look for the phone number or address. This comes with some risk, and we’d mainly recommend you use the contact details to reinforce that the course you’re using has the name and contact details consistent with the TDLR listing to ensure you’re not looking at an imposter. Licensees have been fooled before by polished websites that aren’t TDLR-approved. Remember, only the official TDLR provider and course listings confirm approval.

Verify the Actual Course

TDLR even offers an actual Continuing Education Courses Look Up page where you can search for those approved courses. This adds a welcome layer of confirmation when it comes to making sure that the course of your choosing is state-approved. This is also where you can make sure that your course matches your renewal requirements. Keep in mind that according to TDLR rules for barbers and cosmetologists, your cosmetology license renewal will require the four-hour cosmetology CE for licensees who have held their licenses for fewer than 15 years and the two-hour cosmetology CE for licensees who have held their licenses for at least 15 years.

Always be cautious of a provider that cannot provide you with a TDLR provider number. If you have any questions about how to verify whether or not a course is TDLR-approved, then don’t hesitate to reach out to us at American Course Academy
