Step-by-Step Guide to Signing Up for RBS Training in California
RBS Training

For those new to the industry, what exactly is RBS training? The Responsible Beverage Service Training Program Act was created by state lawmakers to reduce alcohol-related incidents or harm to consumers and communities across the state.

RBS training in California is designed to ensure that alcohol is sold and served responsibly at licensed, on-premises venues such as bars and restaurants. The primary focus is to educate on the dangers of overserving alcohol and serving alcohol to minors. If you think you need a RBS certification, you’re in the right place. Here’s a step-by-step guide to signing up for RBS training in California.

STEP 1: Make Sure You Need RBS Training

If you work or are seeking employment as a server, bartender, manager or licensee at an establishment with an on-premises license to consume alcohol, then you are required by California law to complete RBS training and acquire your certification. If you have any questions about your role’s requirements, then be sure to check with your employer.

STEP 2: Create Your California RBS Portal Account

Visit the official California Department of Alcohol Beverage Control (ABC) RBS Portal. Here, you can register and create your user account. This will require you to enter all pertinent information including your legal name, email address and contact details. A verification email will be sent to your inbox. Once you verify your account it will then be activated.

STEP 3: Login and Complete Your Registration

Once your account is activated you can then login, select server registration from the dashboard and enter additional information such as your place of employment and your job title. Next, you’ll pay a nominal registration fee that can be applied to any debit or credit card. Once this is completed, you will receive your Server ID number, which is important for your RBS training and records.

STEP 4: Choose an Approved RBS Training Provider

The RBS portal has a training provider search feature, but we suggest you skip this and visit our RBS training portal directly. We make it easy to complete your training anytime, anywhere, using any internet-connected device. We also offer certification training in both English and Spanish.

STEP 5: Complete Your Training

Regardless of your RBS training provider, you will be required to pay a nominal registration fee for your RBS training. Once you’ve obtained your Server ID, it’s a breeze to create your account and complete your training with American Course Academy. Upon completion, your certification will be immediately available to download and print.
